The Dominic Studios in Greendale has managed to make a great impact in Zimbabwe and is now giving long established centers like Chapungu Sculpture Park in Masasa and the Tengenenge Community Gallery in Guruve a run for their money. The studio was established in 1994 to give artists who did not have much exposure a proper working space. The studio started with only five artists but currently boasts 25 artists.
“ I grew up as an orphan and the community looked after me, so when l was well established l thought of giving back to the community. Many artists out there have exceptional talent but they do not have proper working space and materials,” said Benhura.
Benhura is scheduled to exhibit at the 34th Annual International Art Expo in Miami next month. The expo will feature a juried selection of fine art from an international slate of artists and galleries.
