Teachers fined over show

A Hwange magistrate, Lindiwe Maphosa, last week convicted and fined 16 teachers from Gebuza High School for making children perform in a nightclub for public entertainment.

The teachers all pleaded guilty to the charges.

The teachers on September 20 last year organised a modelling show to fundraise for the school’s speech day. The show was held at Ingagula Cocktail Bar and pupils aged between 16 and 17 participated.

The event ran from 11 pm till 2.30 am the following day. During the show, one patron was hit with a chair and he later died from injuries sustained during the incident.

The 16 teachers were defended by Tonderai Charles Mukuku of

Marondedze, Mukuku, Ndove and Partners.
