Brought by Livingway Music Promotions and Entertainment, 1980s rhumba legend Moyo will perform at the Safari Hotel on October 5. “Our aim has always been to promote Zimbabwean music and artists here in South Africa and Moyo comes as part of that grand programme,” said Patrick Sibanda, the LMPE director.
“Moyo needs no introduction to Zimbabwean music lovers across genres because of their yester-year hits that include ‘Solo naMutsai’, but there are some people who thought he had quit music and that Devera Ngwena did not exist anymore. We therefore, bring them as a way of taking fans back to the 1980s.”
Most Zimbabweans in Johannesburg and Pretoria had become so accustomed to the likes of Oliver Mtukudzi and Aleck Macheso that they had seemingly forgotten about some of their legends, but Moyo’s visit seems about to twist the trend.
“People should brace themselves for a wonderful time, where they will get the best of the original Devera Ngwena, even with new songs from the band’s most recent recordings also set to be played,” added Sibanda.
“New kid on the block, France Moyo and the Lion Stars, will also be part of the show as supporting artists. We therefore, promise a sample of both the old and the new, but at a level never seen here in a long time.”
