At the Breaking Barriers slam, he managed to outwit highly-rated counterparts Nomsa Mazwai (South Africa), Tim Mwaura (Kenya), Chigo Gondwe (Malawi), Emmah Mabye (South Africa), Botswana’s Mandisa Mabuthoe, Wanjika (Kenya) and Tswarelo (Zimbabwe).
Chirimika came second to South African poet Afurakan, who was on top form the whole night. “I enjoyed myself greatly but, most of all, I was humbled sharing the stage with all those amazing artists. I hope people would get inspired and transformed with my work,’’ said SoProfound (21), who is studying electrical engineering at Harare Polytechnic College.
He believes that poetry enlightens and brings a lot of ignored yet important issues to light.
