The city, which is grappling with a worsening water crisis, introduced cuts three days a week in most high density suburbs in the city about two months ago.
“We have increased the water-shedding period in a bid to try and conserve the water. We hope the remaining water will take us up to the next rainy season,” said Nesisa Mpofu, the city spokesperson.
Mpofu revealed that eastern suburbs would be without water from 7.30am on Monday to 7.30am on Wednesday. The next 48-hour cycle would begin on Friday and end on Sunday.
Mpofu warned that water might not be restored according to the schedule if the water in the service reservoir was low or below critical levels. She said companies and essential service providers such as hospitals would remain exempt from the exercise but warned the companies against abusing the privilege.
