Nyandoro rejected a council proposal to buy him an expensive official vehicle at the expense of service delivery. The council handed over the recently imported British made Mercedes E200 Compressor to Nyandoro last week Thursday.
According to Nyandoro, the mayoral vehicle took four years to purchase due to dirty politicking by Zanu (PF) and jealousy on the part of the mayor’s MDC-T colleagues in council.
“Given the financial challenges faced by council, I saw it unfatherly and unreasonable to drive around in a $43, 000 official vehicle, while the council struggles to provide service delivery to residents,” said Nyandoro.
He said city fathers should be exemplary in whatever they do. “I believe the $30, 000 I saved will go a long way towards funding council priority projects.” Management sources said Nyandoro’s option for a cheaper vehicle was commendable.
“The council is collecting an average $385 000 a month which is gobbled up by workers’ salaries and wages. Nyandoro’s priorities could not be better placed given the dire circumstances council finances are in,” said a senior management official.
Residents commended Nyandoro for ‘not being selfish,’ at a time the council is struggling to provide basic services such as clean water and refuse collection.
“If city fathers and other elected public office bearers could emulate Nyandoro, Zimbabwe would be a better place,” said a senior resident, Josephat Jena.

Office bearers from all three major parties could learn from mayor nyandoro. All those who took luxury cars through out Zimbabwe should be ashamed for being greedy and selfish. It is a good start as minister of education coltart and now mayor nyandoro have shown there are politicians that put the country first before their own selfish interests.
