The tournament drew participants from Matabeleland South and Mashonaland Central Kamangira said a lot of untapped talent was unearthed at the competition, held last weekend, adding that he was overwhelmed with the Under-10 Junior category, in which Ashley Chiwizhe exhibited a fighting prowess that could make him one of the best future kick boxers.
“I was mesmerised by the skill he showed in all his fights. There is no doubt he will make a mark in the sport,” said the ZIKA boss, who sponsored the event to keep the sport alive.
“I want to keep the sport kicking and so we won’t tire just because the corporate world is not coming on board because that might retard the growth of the sport.”
As one of the emerging sports, kickboxing is facing financial challenges, with ZIKA having recently struggled to raise funds for the national team’s travel to the Africa Kickboxing Championships in Madagascar.
