Madzore lambasts Chihuri, Tomana

Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa, Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri and Attorney General Johannes Tomana preside over the “worst ever” justice delivery system, says political prisoner Solomon Madzore. Recently released after spending more than a year in custody on charges of murdering a policeman in Glenview, Madzore told The Zimbabwean there was a deliberate delay in delivering justice and blamed Tomana. “This is unfair. Twenty-seven people accused in the case are still in custody.

Madzore said that although he had suffered harassment at the hands of prison officers during the first days of his incarceration, wardens warmed to him and acknowledged that they were pro-MDC-T.

He accused the justice system of a selective application of the law and averred that those that did not belong to Zanu (PF) were treated unfavourably.

“There are many people out there who committed several crimes but are walking free because they are Zanu (PF). The justice system is vindictive. I wonder why Patrick Chinamasa is still in Cabinet because he is useless. Augustine Chihuri is overseeing one of the worst law enforcement systems ever,” said Madzore.

”My arrest was a strategy to silence and frustrate me as the president of the Youth Assembly. I was not even near the scene of crime when the policeman was killed. The courts even know that I am innocent but it is Zanu (PF)’s strategy to frustrate the party.

“What they don’t know is that there are many Madzores out there and some are not even born. So if they arrest or kill me it does not cripple the party,” he added.

“There is poor delivery system at prisons. At Chikurubi Maximum Prison, there is no running water and the food is pathetic. One can easily fall sick because the environment is not safe and clean,” he said, adding that his life-changing experience had made him stronger. “I will not rest till Zimbabwe attains its real independence in the coming election and l will work hard to ensure that the remaining activists are freed,” he said.

He revealed that the youngest inmate at Chikurubi Maximum Security prison was a 13-year-old who was facing charges of rape. “I felt pity for a 13-year-old boy who was imprisoned on charges of rape but we do not have resources to carry out forensic tests,” he said.
