$20,000 Dairiboard fraud

Milk products giant, Dairiboard, has lost close to $20,000 in a fraud case involving a senior employee at the local branch.

The firm becomes the second in a few months to fall victim to fraud after Tyre Treads’ loss of thousands of dollars recently.

The Dairiboard employee, Temba Vinzu, who is at the centre of the case, has since been arrested and brought before the courts. Prosecutor Stancelous Nyemba told the court that between 1 January and 16 November last year, the accused received cash of daily sales from various workers.

Vuzu, who has since been suspended, worked as a sales shop overseer and was stationed at Kudzanai point at the time the crime was committed. During the same period, he remitted cash amount totalling $112,568 instead of $129,634 therefore creating a shortfall of $17,045.

The discrepancy was eventually unearthed by an external audit, a development which has led to the arrest and prosecution of Vuzu. Trial for the matter has been set for next week and will be presided over by local magistrate Florence Nago.
