Not all war vets are bad

EDITOR – I was interested to real in the press that the ZIPRA commanders have said they will support the principle of “One Man One Vote”. I once a prominent media house a story involving ZAPU and ZIPRA.

A colleague replied that it was “impossible” for their media house to carry such stories. One of the tasks of the media in dictatorships is to harness allies together to create political synergy. I think stories published in the independent media which lampoon all war veterans as violent people are not sensitive. They create a stereotype.

There is no properly trained and principled ZANLA/ZIPRA cadre who abides by Robert Mugabe’s leadership style. In fact, the research work that led to the formation of the MDC was actually done by a principled ZANLA ex-combatant Timothy Kondo.

The independent media may also do well for the country if the remove stereotyping and bias against ex-combatants. There are many good stories that can be published on the lives of Zimbabwe’s ex-combatants. Thirty-three years in Parliament is greedy. Mai Mujuru and Company must pass on the baton. – Good War Vet, by email
