He told The Zimbabwean that Harare City Council would soon be producing five megawatts per day from sewage, adding that the Firle and Crowborough sewer plants were expected to generate the waste.
“We will be producing more electricity than our two plants require as they use about two megawatts each per day,” he added.
Mutizwa said they would engage ZESA to buy the surplus electricity. “We will also be able to produce bio-fertilisers that can be sold to local farmers,” he said.
Mutizwa said the sewer plants had digesters to produce methane gas that could be converted into electricity.
“We have 26 digesters at each plant that can capture methane gas and a plant that converts the gas into power is being set up by a private company, Energy Resources Africa,” said Mutizwa.
