Matende goes for Gold in Gaborone

After winning the Victoria Falls marathon last year, veteran long distance runner, Millen Matende, is going for gold at the Gaborone City Marathon next month.

The 10 km race, which starts and finishes at Phakalane Golf Estate, attracts thousands of local and international runners and Matende has intensified training ahead of this and other upcoming races.

“I spent the entire festive season training. I am shifting my focus to international tournaments now because I am still full of energy,” said the 30-year-old runner.

“The Gaborone race will surely be a defining moment for me, as I am aiming at nothing less than a Gold medal. There are other lots of events that I am also preparing to participate in during the year. I work hard on a daily basis to make this a reality.”

Last year, the Zimbabwean athlete recorded his most productive year, as he also triumphed at the 25 km Jak Meklier Marathon and Loskop Half Marathons.
