Believe it or not

Inventor creates tail for humans

A Japanese man has invented a tail for humans which wags when the wearer is in a good mood.

The ‘Tailly’ is attached to a belt with sensors which take the wearer’s pulse. When their heart beats faster, it wags faster.

Inventor Shota Ishiwatari is convinced it will be a hit and hopes it will soon be on sale in Britain.

“Tailly is fun to wear to parties, while out with friends or playing with kids,” he said.

“You could even wear Tailly on a date and express your true feelings through the wagging tail.

“Even better, your partner could also wear one, to add a level of subconscious communication between the two of you.”

Dot portrait for the missing man

The only thing more unbelievable than this drawing is the story behind it.

In 2004, an unconscious man was found bloody and naked in a skip in Georgia, USA.

He had no belongings, ID or memory of who he was. After months of ongoing evaluation from doctors and psychologists it was determined he was suffering from dissociative amnesia.

He is the only citizen in the United States officially listed as missing despite his whereabouts being known. He adopted the pseudonym Benjaman Kyle after the fast food restaurant he was found outside.

Since then, Kyle has embarked on a search for his true identity sparking massive amounts of media coverage and even a short film, entitled Finding Benjaman. He is unable to receive a new social security number because of his situation, and is therefore unable to get a job – or even register at a homeless shelter.

Artist Miguel Endara was one of many citizens who, after hearing Kyle’s story, wanted to help. Endara, known for his incredibly realistic dot drawings, used his talent to create a life-like portrait of Kyle made up of 2.1 million ink dots. It took 138 hours with each dot applied one by one at an average of 4.25 dots per second.

Endara hopes it will spread awareness of Mr Kyle’s plight and to help raise money through the sale of his prints.

The things that hotel guests leave behind…

Harry Potter’s original wand, a micro pig and breast implants top a bizarre list of items left in hotels across Britain last year.

Budget chain Travelodge says a winning EuroMillions lottery ticket, a bucket of live crabs and a diamond-encrusted iPhone were also left behind by guests.

“Each year our lost and found departments provide plenty of revelations,” said Travelodge spokeswoman Shakila Ahmed. “From keys to a Bugatti, Harry Potter’s original wand, a micro pig, breast implants to a script from a well-known British soap programme, our customers’ left-behinds demonstrate what a cross section of people stay in our 527 hotels.”

Other bizarre items included a box of 200 Queen Elizabeth masks, a trunk of chocolate bars and a pantomime horse. In a Travelodge in Essex, an 8ft pop-up spray tanning booth was left behind by a group of girls nursing their hangovers.

More than 20,000 books were also left behind in hotel rooms, 7,000 of which were copies of E L James’ Fifty Shades of Grey.

Back from the dead man sent packing

A man declared dead after he went missing 19 years ago has been sent packing again – by his furious wife.

Igor Faber, 47, disappeared during a hike in the Tatra mountains near his home in Poprad, Slovakia, in 1993. But after months of searching rescue teams told his grieving wife Renata he was missing presumed dead. Unknown to his wife and their two children, Faber had simply walked out to start a new life.

“He was finding family life tough and wanted to start again. He didn’t give a thought for his wife and children,” said one family friend.

But this month Faber was found living in a homeless shelter in Prague during a routine check on missing persons. Now wife Renata has refused to take him back after being contacted by police.

“How can I take him back after all this time? Life has moved on. The children have a new father, I have a new husband,” she said. “If he couldn’t be bothered to contact us then I don’t see why I should change my life again. Clearly he didn’t want us so now we don’t want him.”

A family friend added: “He is in a bad position now but it’s his own making. His new life didn’t work out and his old one doesn’t want him back.”
