Zimbabwe all-rounder and former captain, Elton Chigumbura, has been left out of the training squad of 24 players preparing for next month’s tour of the West Indies.

Zimbabwe will play the West Indies in two Tests, three One-Day-Internationals and two Twenty20s.

Chigumbura has been an integral part of the team for a long time but after losing form last year he has been sidelined for this important series.

But quick bowler Tinashe Panyangara has earned himself a call-up to the national team after regaining his touch since his move to Southern Rocks where he has assumed captaincy.

Chief of selectors Givemore Makoni said that Chigumbura had been left out because of poor form and they were hoping he would work harder to regain his place.

“The squad has been selected based on for, for a long time Chigumbura has been off form,” said Makoni. “We hope that this is going to inspire him to work hard and regain his place, he remains one of the best players we have but he has to justify inclusion in the team.”

Most of the big names were included as was Matebeleland Tuskers’ Sean Williams who made a return to the sport after a year’s absence.

Richard Muzhange has lost his place after failing a fitness test.

Captain Brendan Taylor will lead the team again as coach Alan Butcher presides over the team for the last tour before his contract with Zimbabwe Cricket expires.
