“I can safely say that we won. All our outstanding issues were ironed out and we stand to benefit more. We are going to have an Independent National Prosecutor and we now have a President who has limited powers,†MDC spokesman Douglas Mwonzora was quoted by the Zimbabwean.
The Copac Constitution grants Mugabe and Zanu PF the licence to use all manner of dirty tricks to deny the people of Zimbabwe the right to free and fair elections by allowing them to retain a strangle hold on the country’s media, hold elections using the same chaotic voters role and worst of all allow Mugabe to use wanton violence. Above all else the new constitution was supposed to stop the repeat of nightmare election violence of 2008. Only an idiot will deny there will be no violence this year if the elections go ahead.
How can anyone even think the nation has won when we have lost the right to elect our national leaders including the president? Being told the president will now serve a fixed maximum two five-year terms does not even make up for the life shattering reality that we still have no free and meaning vote in Zimbabwe, 33 years after independence!
