Makoto wins chess tourney

FIDE Master, Rodwell Makoto, won the just ended Blair Gowrie Rapid chess tourney, played here last weekend.

The Zimbabwean, who is based in South Africa and also came third at the Annual Sports Merit awards, where he won five games and drew two. He beat FIDE Master Pon, Jose Mwale, Pon Dale, Alessandro Crissmann and Roberto de Abreu and drew with Musatwe Simutowe of Zambia and Malawi’s Richard Mbedza in a tournament that saw 60 players take part.
