This year’s nominees’ list, released by Nama Board Member and Chairperson of the Adjudication Panel Dudu Manhenga last week, received positive criticism from arts experts and the general public.
The list will see stars competing in 35 categories from the 400 entries submitted, with most eyes glued to the music categories – Nama’s major draw card. This year’s edition has seen underrated dancehall star Sniper Storm rise above his peers with three nominations in the Outstanding Male Musicians, Song and Album categories.
He locks horns with Nox and Sulumani Chimbetu in the first category, while his hit song “Love Yemusoja” battles out with Jah Prayzah’s hit song “Gochi Gochi,” and “Ndinonyara” by Nox in the second category.
The self-proclaimed dancehall General’s album “Love Yemusoja” will once again compete with Sulu’s album Syllabus and “Shongwe” from Blessing Shumba in the Outstanding Album category. In the Outstanding Music Video category, “Ruvimbo” from Energy Mutodi, “Amai Bhoyi” by Jutal and Roki’s “Mativenga” will be vying for the award.
Also of interest is the Outstanding Female Musician category, which will see a fierce competition between urban grooves songbirds Paxedes Wenyika, Cindy Munyavi; and afro-fusion sensation Hope Masike with C&A Entertainment, Brumat that trades as Horizon Bar and Restaurant, and Chipaz Promotions clashing for the Music Promoter of the Year award.
