“If we continue on this path of spending time criticising each other unfairly when we should be pulling together to try and correct things, we will be caught napping again and Zanu (PF) will steal victory from us,” she said.
“We saw it during the previous referendum, when the Zanu (PF) side of the divide outnumbered those who were pushing for real democracy.
Some people have unfairly criticised the draft, yet in essence, it makes a lot of sense to those who have lived in Zimbabwe for some time and experienced our political crisis.”
She blamed the on-going divisions on a crisis of leadership among pro-democratic forces, which have failed to find common ground – thereby giving Zanu (PF) the leeway to manipulate them.
“We have been so relaxed that we have allowed Zanu (PF) to get away with many things at our expense and if we continue to do that they might win the elections,” said Misihairabwi-Mushonga.
“We need to stop this political grandstanding and concentrate more of our efforts in making sure that a pro-democracy force wins the next elections. We now need to move on to forcing key reforms that will guarantee a transfer of power. In 2008, the elections were won but there was no transfer of power and those are the kind of things we must now focus on.”
