Soldiers beat Midlands villagers

Cases of political violence have been reported in two areas of Midlands Province - Mberengwa’s Mataga village and Empress wards in Zhombe. In both areas soldiers have been beating up opponents of Zanu (PF).

Local sources said the soldiers deployed to distribute President Robert Mugabe’s donated maize seed were harassing villagers. The disturbances were reported to police and JOMIC has been asked to intervene,” said Jameson Tsuro the MDC-T provincial spokesperson.

Ndumo Moyo, the Midlands JOMIC Co-Chairperson from the MDC led by Welshman Ncube said the organisation was investigating. Francis Chikwira the Zanu (PF) provincial secretary general could not be reached for comment –as he was said to be “at his farm”.
