The Bulawayo-based club impressed in their first year in the Premiership with some gritty performances, managing a run of 13 victories, 11 draws and only six defeats. They outperformed even more illustrious clubs like CAPS United, Motor Action and FC Platinum.
Even more remarkable was the fact that they did this without any star names, relying mainly on team work, the motivation and guidance of rookie coach, Adam Ndlovu (now late). Club officials are convinced they have further strengthened the team and expect to be counted among the new season’s title contenders.
“We have brought in quite a number of good players and I am convinced that we have an even stronger squad now,” said club secretary, Tavengwa Hara. “The new players have added depth and competition to the team and I am sure that we are now good enough to fight for the championship.”
Hara said they had signed the former FC Platinum trio of Zephania Ngodzo, Hardlife Muvundi and Kabby Kamhapa. Tonisani Sibelo had also come in from Hwange, while they have also snapped up exciting winger, Richard Jongwe from relegated Hardbody.
Negotiations were underway to bring in former Highlanders striker, Mkhokheli Dube and Hardbody captain, Brian Juru, who plays in central midfield. On the other hand gangling defensive linkman Sydney Linyama, who can also play in central defence, has left for Dynamos, who had still not finished paying for his services, while veteran defender Herbert Dick is also no longer part of the squad. The club also managed to retain the services of the Premiership Rookie of the year Kuda Mahachi, on loan from Division One side Bantu Rovers. The bow-legged Zimbabwe Under-20 international was in fine form last year. He impressed with his runs on the left of midfield and his ability to strike ferocious shots from distance.
The potent forward line of Thomas Chimenya, Tendai Ndoro, Leneance Mpofu, Tendai Mukambi and Evans Chikwaikwai is an added sharpener to the youthful side.
