Call it as it is

EDITOR - I have been a spectator of Zimbabwean politics for a long time. Most people are of the opinion that, ‘...politics is another man’s fire to put out’. However, it is time to ask what you can do to better the situation in the country.

Finger pointing and complaining got us in this mess in the first place. Neither MDC nor Zanu (PF) are in a position to blame one another as they are birds of the same feather. The solution to our current situation can only be found in us, the untainted section of the population.

The youth are too lazy to effect change but what future can come out of a lost generation? The Draft Constitution does not recognise us, the youth, as capable of effecting change in the country. Correct me if I am wrong but an 18-year-old is eligible to vote yet we must be over 40 in order to be considered for a position in an executive office. If I can vote for a president or senator when I am 18, why can’t I be given the same platform to stand for election?

To Zimbabweans as we gear up to vote for the new constitution keep this in mind: ‘Am I doing enough?’ – Clement Jamela, by e-mail
