Addressing journalists at the national command center in the capital at around 21.30 hours today, ZEC Chairperson, Justice Rita Makarau said the Commission had reached the final stages of collation of the results.
“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission wishes to inform the nation that it has now reached the final stages of collation of the results for the referendum held on the 16th of March 2013.
“The final result of the referendum shall be announced at 14.30 hours tomorrow the 19th of March 2013,” said Makarau.
She said that all interested parties are invited to attend the final press conference where the results shall be announced.
Makarau said that ZEC had not encountered any challenges in the counting and verification of the results.
“We have not encountered any challenges at all. We are simply collating and verifying to make sure that we get accurate results,” she said.
She however could not confirm or deny poll results from some parts of the country that were posted in some sections of the media adding that ZEC found no fault with the announcements.
“There is nothing illegal about that because there is a law that says results will be pasted outside polling stations but I cannot really confirm that because we do not know how those results were transmitted from the polling stations to the media,” said Makarau.
