MDC-T and church mobilise funds for victims

MDC-T SA Women Assembly in conjunction with Central Methodist Church will today launch a fund-raising initiative to cater for victims of political violence.

MDC-T SA Women Assembly leader, Thembi Sibanda, said the death of Christpower Maisiri, a 12-year-old boy who burnt to death last month in an arson attack, motivated their decision to fund-raise for victims of political violence.

“Their house was burnt down and this weekend we will hold an event to mobilise funds for the family to build a new house. We are appealing to everyone out there to attend and donate whatever they can. People should understand that they are not the only family affected as some families still have nothing,” said Sibanda.

Bishop Paul Verryn of Central Methodist Church will preside over a memorial service for the late Christpower Maisiri.

“We need to preach peace to the Zimbabweans on Saturday through a memorial service for Maisiri. He died a painful death and we don’t want a repeat of that bad situation,” said Verryn.
