“The delegation toured Bulawayo and all the other towns because government is yet to decide on which city will host the event,” said Nheweyembwa.
“Many people have already made this a contest between Harare and Bulawayo, but so many factors are being considered. A recommendation has been made to decentralise sport in the country and ensure all provinces host such games.
“The authorities have discovered that South Africa is still benefiting from the infrastructure they built for the 2010 World Cup because the games were played in all of that country’s provinces.”
The Council’s Secretary General, Mvuzo Mbebe, led the delegation, which, after inspecting the sporting and accommodation facilities in Bulawayo and Harare, met with the Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture and the Sports and Recreation Commission, to brief them on its preliminary findings.
Zimbabwe signed the Protocol Agreement with the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa last November, which allowed the country to host the Games in December 2014. Ten countries SADC will be represented at the Under-20 games.
