The Amazulu shot-stopper’s recent deal has made him the first footballer in the continent to endorse the United States-based company’s apparel.

He first wore the Warrior boot and glove in a league match two weekends ago, when his side wrestled a point against Absa Premiership strugglers, Ajax Cape Town.

“I am honoured to be presented the opportunity to wear the Warrior equipment,” the Amazulu captain told The Zimbabwean. Kapini will play in the gear until the end of this season in May and, if the impression the apparel has made on the former Warriors goalkeeper is anything to go by, a long-term deal is imminent.

“I will wear the apparel in the coming weeks on a test basis. If I am impressed by the product, I will secure a two-year deal with the firm. I have enjoyed playing in the gear and am positive of securing a major deal.”

Founded in 1992, Warrior, an entity of New Balance, entered the football market last year. Among its most prominent partnerships is a multimillion-pound sponsorship deal with English giants Liverpool, coincidentally one of Kapini’s favourite teams.

The partnership underscores the player’s status as one of the most popular figures in the Absa Premiership. Kapini’s return from a long injury lay-off has coincided with the immense improvement in the team’s fortunes, immediately catapulting them above fellow relegation contenders
