It was originally thought that the he was Angolan as he was carrying kwanzas, the country’s currency. In addition the body was discovered at the same time as a British Airways flight from Luanda to Heathrow lowered its undercarriage for landing.
The man had hidden in the undercarriage of a passenger jet, but fell from a height of about 750 metres as the aircraft made its approach to the airport.
However, police investigations into SIM phone cards on his possession led them to discover that he was in fact originally from Mozambique.
Detectives are in contact with Mozambican officials to find his family.
A post-mortem examination was held at Kingston Hospital Mortuary on 11 September 2012 and gave the cause of death as multiple injuries.
An inquest has opened and adjourned at West London Coroner’s Court.
