The Redan service station along Main Street caught fire from a welding machine which was being used by an as yet to be identified man next to the garage.
“What happened is that someone was welding whilst the two tankers were off loading fuel at the garage. Then everything went on fire,”Raj Modi owner of Spar supermarket adjacent to Redan garage told The Zimbabwean. There were no deaths or injuries but for safety reasons we have since closed our supermarket market”.
When The Zimbabwean arrived at the scene the Bulawayo fire Brigade was busy trying to put out the fire. Bulawayo Police spokesperson Mandla Sibanda said: “Yes there are two fuel tankers and garage on fire but we have not recorded any deaths or injuries”.
Redan supervisor Edson Nkomo said we have lost thousands of US dollars because of a fire caused by a guy who was welding. Luckily No one was injured”.
