Macheke murder suspect remanded

A Macheke man, Alex Siyanga (26), suspected of murdering Moreblessing Duwati (19) on March 30, 2013 was last Friday further remanded in custody to May 3.

Siyanga first appeared at the Marondera Magistrates Court on February 19, 2013 for initial remand.

He told the court that he made police statements freely without any duress.

Siyanga’s statement read before Magistrate Victor Mohammed indicated that he killed Moreblessing because she jilted him.

Part of the state case reads: “I was in love with Moreblessing since 2011 though the affair was not rosy due to interference by some of her relatives. Things came to a head after I called her and another man answered. He told me to leave Moreblessing alone as she was his lover.”

Siyanga stabbed Moreblessing in the face and neck. He dumped the dead body beside the road in Nyazema Township. Passersby discovered her body the following morning.

Moreblessing was a football player with the army’s Women Soccer Premier League Champions, Black Rhinos Queens.
