Shamu recently met war veterans in the chiefs’ hall where he said his party was banking on the former freedom fighters to ensure President Robert Mugabe’s re-election
“You are the vanguard of the liberation struggle and therefore our victory as a party is in your hands,” said Shamu. “If you fold your hands, we will definitely lose these elections.”
Shamu, who was accompanied by the controversial war veteran leader, Jabulani Sibanda, said all war veterans should recognise Sibanda as their leader.
“Sibanda is our leader as war veterans and anyone wanting to remove him is just day dreaming,” said Shamu.
Speaking at the same occasion, Sibanda said all war veterans should gear up to fight the enemy.
“We have to protect our sovereignty and territorial integrity and who ever wants to reverse the gains of the struggle will be fought.”
Shamu and Sibanda’s remarks have been viewed by many as a way of instigating violence.
