A car dealer in Harare told The Zimbabwean that the tobacco selling season provided them with an opportunity to make cash.
“We usually take advantage of this period because most farmers buy cars after having sold their crop. At the moment we have cheap cars in stock because most of them are not willing to part with a lot of cash,” said a car dealer who identified himself as Munyaradzi.
Another car dealer along Seke Road said they had reduced prices of vehicles as a way of attracting the tobacco farmers.
“We know tobacco farmers are not willing to buy expensive cars,” said another car dealer who identified himself as Gift.
A worker at one of the car sale rooms on Seke Road said ignorance and a lack of knowledge among the tobacco farmers was driving sales.
“Most of the cars on special offer are not in a very good condition but the farmers lack knowledge. The ones in demand are the pick-up trucks,” said a worker who preferred not to be named.
