Chaurura is a motivational speaker, domain expert, specialist trainer and senior independent sales director at a leading cosmetics company, Mary Kay Cosmetics.
“The only person holding you back from realising your dream is you. The path I travelled as a child was my greatest motivation.”
She attributed her success to her childhood of selling various wares at the local market in Mufakose’s high-density suburb.
“Cooking with firewood and selling tomatoes, vegetables and cigarettes at our local shopping centre was the greatest motivation for wanting to change my circumstances,” she said.
Chaurura wants to empower the marginalised in society at a grassroots level.
“Looking at all the youths from my community, I am reminded of my own journey. There are people who do not believe I had a very difficult childhood,” she said. “I want to plough back into my community and my country because I know that our destiny as Zimbabweans is in our hands.”
The foundation she established is also working towards setting up a centre with world-class resource materials and relevant training workshops. In preparation for this, the organisation has started mentoring young entrepreneurs.
“Though most of the projects are still in their pilot phase, we will soon be kick- starting a piggery project in Chikwaka, Mashonaland East, where we hope to demonstrate that with the right mindset, all things are possible.”
