The two offices located at Nyika growth point have exposed the former ruling party’s infighting, which threatens to tear apart ahead of elections.
One office is being run by party activists with the backing of former MP of the area, Claudius Makova, while the other is reportedly loyal to musician-cum-politician, Elias Musakwa.
Musakwa is eying the Bikita West parliamentary seat where he is likely to meet his former workmate from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, Munyaradzi Kereke.
Sources within Zanu (PF) said the factions were preparing for a bruising battle ahead of party primaries.
“We are operating two offices and each office is being run by different people,” said a Zanu (PF) supporter who refused to be named. “It has been like this for the past two months.”
Zanu (PF) Masvingo provincial chairman, Lovemore Matuke, said he was not aware of the development in Bikita but admitted that there was fierce infighting.
“I was not aware of this but as we approach elections fighting and squabbles always arise,” said Matuke. “If there are two offices in Bikita then we have to investigate this and make sure that we operate one office.”
In Masvingo, factional fighting within Zanu (PF) has reached boiling point. One faction is loyal to defence minister Emerson Munangagwa and the other to vice president Joyce Mujuru.
Leading the Mujuru faction in Masvingo is former governor and politburo member, Dzikamai Mavhaire , while former governor and senator for Chivi-Mwnezi, Josaya Hungwe, is leading the Munangagwa camp.
Some of the Mujuru camp members include tourism and hospitality minister Walter Mzembi and Eddison Zvobgo junior. The Munangangwa camp has party provincial chairman Lovemore Matuke, former Gutu south legislator, Shuvai Mahofa, and Governor, Titus Maluleke, among its ranks.
