Business distressed: EMCOZ

The Employers Confederation of Zimbabwe has described the business environment in the country as “extremely distressed”.

Speaking at a Human Resources Indaba held in the city last week, EMCOZ Senior President, Jack Murewa, underscored the need for the government to level the business playing field to protect local businesses from regional competitors.

“Employers are in danger of being over-run by their regional competitors and we really need to level the playing field and protect them,” said Murewa.

Zimbabwe is coming out of a hyper inflationary era and, according to Murewa, there are many distortions that need to be rectified. “Our economy is still fragile,” he said.

The business indaba sought to bring employers together to discuss challenges bedeviling local companies as well as devise ways on how the government could assist.

Murewa said although the country’s Labour Act had unique provisions, they were working to the detriment of the employers.

EMCOZ is a business pressure group that strives to engage and influence policy decisions affecting the business community by providing efficient, relevant, professional and quality services. .
