The South African Communist Party, was the first to condemn the murder, in which Sizo Moyo was shot three times.
“Moyo, a migrant labourer and Zimbabwean national, was killed by the farm owner and his son. They dragged him from his accommodation, where he has been enslaved for more than 30 years, working for the farm owner known to many as ‘Baas Dave’,” said SACP district spokesman, Paseka Mafereka.
“Dave, is the owner of Plot 20 in Muldersdrift and is known for using immigrants as cheap labour and threatens to kill them in the event they say anything against him.”
The SACP said Dave apparently shot Moyo three times and later claimed it was in self-defence. The farmer had not been arrested at the time of going to print.
“A Muldersdrift police station commander is working to ensure that the Dave is not arrested and that should he be arrested, the case against him is weak,” added Mafereka. “There are reports that policemen and women in the station are divided along racial lines over this case. The SACP and the churches in Mulderdrift call on the Provincial Police Commissioner and the West Rand Cluster Commander to intervene.”
The SACP demanded the suspension of members of the police station. “The SACP is also planning a march to the police station to express the views of the community of Muldersdrift on continued killings of black people by white farmers.”
