Exam fee theft

Armed robbers got away with $5,500 of examination fees from Chinyaradza Secondary School in Zaka last week. According to sources, the five robbers struck around midnight and tied the guard up. They then opened the school safe using dynamite and helped themselves to the money.

“The guard managed to free himself as soon as the robbers had left using a knife and he went straight to the headmaster’s house to report the incident,” one source told The Zimbabwean.

The headmaster is said to be under a lot of pressure from parents who want to know why the money hadn’t been deposited in the Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council bank account. The parents of the affected students are now expected to pay more fees before the May 10 deadline.
