Villagers from Mahusekwa and surrounding villages told The Zimbabwean that Zanu (PF) officials and traditional leaders sent away known MDC sympathisers and people with national identification documents marked ‘Alien’ from the recruitment exercise which started last week Monday.
According to villagers, Zanu (PF) Senator for Marondera-Hwedza who hails from Mahusekwa, Sydney Sekeramayi, warned party officials from practicing partisan recruitment.
“Notable top Zanu (PF) officials and traditional headmen produced lists of ‘prospective’ employees at the hospital and declared that there would not be any employment for MDC members or aliens,” said a villager who chose to be identified as Svisva.
Ministry of Labour officials in Marondera who spoke to The Zimbabwean said they had shortlisted people who registered for government employment, only to be frustrated by political interference.
“Zanu (PF) officials hijacked the programme,” said a labour official.
The official said that aliens were discriminated against as they were accused of voting for MDC in the March 2008 election.
Mahusekwa hospital is on a massive recruitment exercise to fill vacancies in various departments. The 200-bed hospital was constructed by the Chinese from March 2010 to 2011 through the $10 million China-Zimbabwe Friendship agreement.
When reached for comment Sekeramayi would neither confirm nor deny the allegations.
