The prison is some 11 kilometres out of Marondera off Chihota Road and is serviced by one truck which was reportedly away for routine mechanical servicing. Anxious residents, relatives and court officials could be seen milling about the courts as they expected the highly publicised murder case to kick off.
A Macheke man, Alex Siyanga (26) who is accused of murdering his girlfriend Moreblessing Duwati (19) on 31 April 2013 was expected to appear at the courts for a possible commencement of his trial.
The trial has become a crowd puller in this provincial capital of Mashonaland East and residents had turned up in their numbers to witness court proceedings. Siyanga first appeared at the courts for initial remand on 19 April 2013 and consented to the State outline in which he is being accused of murdering him of murdering Duwati following a misunderstanding.
According to the State, Siyanga stabbed Moreblessing several times in the face and neck before dumping her dead body along the road in Nyazema Township, where passersby discovered it the following morning.
The case has now been postponed to May 31.
