
Tsvangirai made the assurances at a diplomatic discussion held between his office and the visiting Chinese government ministerial delegation led by Yang.
He appreciated the increased investment in Zimbabwe by Chinese companies and assistance given the GNU by China.
Though Tsvangirai expressed gratitude at the Chinese business investments, he said such dealings must result in a 50-50 win situation for both Zimbabwe and China.
“Chinese investments in Zimbabwe are welcome provided they benefit the hosting country and that the companies respect labour laws and standards,” said Tsvangirai.
Tsvangirai said Zimbabwe had everything to learn from the Chinese economic privatisation model and discussed business partnerships.
He said his recent visit to China had resulted in fruitful discussions regarding partnerships in projects such as the Kariba South Power Station, Harare Water Project and the Zimbabwe roads infrastructure upgrading.
Tsvangirai appraised the Chinese delegation on progress made regarding the Zimbabwe electoral process.
The constitution making was described as a success as President Robert Mugabe was expected to assent to the Constitution Bill today.
The PM said election programme will be planned after the Bill has been signed into law.
“Zimbabweans are looking forward to elections which would bring a new political dispensation. Relations between Zimbabwe and China are also set to be strengthened after elections,” said Tsvangirai.
Yang said relations between China and Zimbabwe have strengthened over the past 30 years to the benefit of both nations.
He commended Tsvangirai for his commitment towards rebuilding Zimbabwe into a peaceful and prosperous country. “Since formation of the GNU, Tsvangirai has been committed to the economic, social and political stability of Zimbabwe. He also protected human life.”
Chinese business boom in Zimbabwe following Tsvangirai’s recent visit to Beijing was acknowledged.
“Following the recent visit to China by PM Tsvangirai we experienced a boom in bilateral business to the tune of $570 million. This translated to 89.4 percent rise in bilateral trade,” said Yang.
He said Chinese investments in Zimbabwe created massive job opportunities for locals and helped enhance activities in sectors such as agriculture among others.
China has pledged new assistance to Zimbabwe in form of loans and grants for irrigation projects and other needy national requirements.
China promised assistance towards hosting of the United Nations World Tourism Summit to be co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Zambia coming August in Victoria Falls.
There are millions of other Chinese companies willing to do business with Zimbabwe. The companies would be in Zimbabwe on moral grounds not just to make profit.
“Companies which violate rights of Zimbabweans and engage in shoddy activities would be recalled and dealt with accordingly by the Chinese government,” said Yang.
He said political stability would be the anchor for Zimbabwe economic growth and provide the best security to Chinese investments.
