Musundire garnered more than the required 50 percent of the votes in the party’s primary elections held this afternoon at the Chitungwiza Tennis Courts venue in Seke.
Announcing the results, a party election officer said Musundire acquired 292 ‘yes’ and 39 ‘no’ votes.
However, the primary elections were marred by chaos when some party supporters claiming to be in the party structures in Ward 20’s Unit H, Seke, were turned away.
The supporters alleged that there were representatives who had been bussed in from other districts who were being allowed to vote in their place.
“There shall be gnashing of teeth because we are going to join the other MDC camp and split the vote. Remember, we worked hard for this party since it was formed only to be treated as outsiders today,” he added.
The supporters who refused to vacate the venue of the primaries were later addressed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Nelson Chamisa.
Chamisa said: “The MDC- T is not a party of violence. If we start shouting at each other like this, the next thing is we will be beating each other up.
“We do not want the imposition of candidates and I have heard your concerns and I am going to address this issue before we go for the primaries where we are going to select the councilors.”
In a related development, Chitungwiza South Member of Parliament, Misheck Shoko, will have to battle it out in the party’s primaries after he failed to sufficient votes required by the confirmation process.
Shoko will join Science and Technology Minister Heneri Dzinotyiwei, sitting MPs Elias Jembere representing Epworth, Gift Dzirutwe (Glen Norah), Simon Ruuke Hove (Highfield West), Margaret Matienga (Sunningdale), Willias Madzimure (Kambuzuma) and Pearson Mungofa (Highfield East yesterday failed to win the required confirmation percentage vote of 50 percent plus one vote.
