Last year he sent to death Kudakwashe Mtetwa (28) of Chikwangwadza village after he had murdered his father and half-brother.
In the latest case, Prosecutor Samuel Pedzisai told the court that sometime in the first week of November 2011, Lydia Mangena (27) of Village Musekiwa, Chief Mataruse met the accused, Desire Dhewa, a former soldier, at Chimiti Shopping centre. He proposed love to her but was turned down.
He assaulted her and on November 21 went to Mangena’s homestead, where he knocked at the door of the hut in which she and her two children were sleeping, saying he wanted to ask for forgiveness for the troubles. She refused to open and jumped out through the window at the back of the hut.
Dhewa gave chase but was outpaced. Mangena went to Austin Marume, a Neighbourhood Watch Committee member, to make a report. While narrating her ordeal there she observed a large flame on the roof of her hut. When she rushed back in the company of Marume, the whole hut was on fire.
She found her uncle Edons Mangena having retrieved the first child, who had suffered severe burns, and later died. The other had been burnt beyond recognition.
