Established in 2003 in response to a growing and increasingly alienated Zimbabwean Diaspora community in South Africa, the Peace and Democracy Project’s main goal is to develop a vibrant, united Diaspora that can help contribute in building and sustaining a peaceful, democratic country through prayer support to democratic processes.
“The project will unite churches and continue holding prayers for peace in our country, during and after the elections,” said Senior Coordinator, Gilbert Mabhena-Moyo.
“United Zimbabwean churches in South Africa through their prayers can also help lobby for good governance and peace through prayer, discussion and debates on the importance of prayer in conflict resolution.
“Our country can only be freed if Christians are allowed to play their role in communities without anyone’s interference,” he added.
The event will also encourage the expansion of church organisation networks within the Diaspora leading to increased participation in issues related to the country.
Since its inception, PDP has progressively pioneered programmes like the voices of Exiled Zimbabweans Survey, the Zimbabwe Agenda Conference, Heroes Day Soccer Tournament, Unity Day Soccer and Netball Tournament.
