“The body of my child is still lying at Steve Biko mortuary and we haven’t got money to take it to our home in Rutenga,” Chikati told The Zimbabwean. “The government is quiet, but they must help us as this was done by their security personnel.”
The chairman for Human Rights Africa, Azaria Dube Nduna, is concerned about the situation and said the family must be helped and the policeman who shot the child must be arrested. The Human Rights lawyer has assisted many Zimbabweans here since 2008.
Meanwhile his own child died unexpectedly last week early morning in Rabie Ridge, Midrand. She was buried in Tembisa, Johannesburg later in the week.
“The cause of my child’s death was negligence from the hospital. How can someone give birth alone inside the hospital and spend 10 minutes unattended,” Nduna told The Zimbabwean. “A female nurse hurriedly came and apologised, asked my wife if it was her first time and quickly took the baby to an incubator as it was by then very cold. An apology is not enough as they have cost my child’s life.”
