Cadwell Mashininga died in April and his body has been stranded at a London funeral parlour for more than a month. The funeral insurance company, that is underwritten by Zimnat Life, donated US$1,600 towards a fund set up by the family.
Confirming receipt of the donation this week, family spokesperson Moses Nhamburo, who has been co-ordinating donations, said: “Finally, my friend’s wish to be laid to rest in his beloved motherland can be realised. I am greatly humbled by the generosity and togetherness of the Zimbabwean community.”
Company spokesperson Roda Williams said death in the diaspora was a social challenge that continued to haunt families and migrant communities. The cash plan was launched in 2012 and is available to Zimbabweans worldwide and at home. It guarantees immediate cash pay-out into any bank worldwide.
Mashininga served as a policeman in Zimbabwe from 1987 until his move to the UK in 2001. He is survived by his London-based wife and four children who are all in Zimbabwe. He was 44. – For further information: Moses Nhambuko +44 7863 699966 Walter Zaranyika +44 7946 827802.
