Kombi protests turn sour

Riot police fought Mucheke residents
last week who took to the street protesting against
reckless driving by commuter drivers in the city.

Residents of Mucheke’s
Sisk area erected barricades on the roads in protest against the death of two children
who were hit by commuter buses plying the Town-Runyararo
West route.

Riot police were drafted in to disperse the crowd but a stone-throwing battle ensued and five people were arrested.

Masvingo provincial police spokesman, Inspector Peter Zhanero, said they had to deploy riot police because the situation was getting out of hand.

“We are urging our commuter drivers to be cautious, especially when driving in high density areas,” he added.
