At least 50 families in Melani village are benefitting from the Ubulongwe Biogas project, the 10,000l biogas scheme that aims to provide cheap energy from cow dung. It also empowers people with skills to protect the environment, create economic opportunities and improve the standard of living for people in the village.

Cheteni is also helping youths in Lusikisiki to set up an agriculture co-operative and a non-profit organisation that would ensure the upholding of human rights and female emancipation.

In an interview with The Zimbabwean recently, Cheteni said such initiatives were driven by a passion to invest in the lives of young people and women.

“The passion to impact people’s lives inspires my work and keeps me motivated. Africa will never be what we want it to be unless we have the courage to take it upon ourselves to act. I am very broad when it comes to initiatives,” he said.

Cheteni’s is also the Chairman of the World Youth Government in Africa, an organisation that complements the UN in addressing challenges that affect youth in Africa, in line with its Millennium Development Goals.

“It is hard to attain those goals without youths playing their role in the whole setup,” Cheteni said.

In addition, he is the United Nation Online Volunteer and works with the Kairos Society, an international non-profit organisation of entrepreneurs and innovators from 35 top universities in more than 100 countries. The youth, who attended school in Bulawayo, Hwange and Nyamandlovu, has a first class Degree in Management and Economics at the University of Fort Hare in South Africa and is currently studying for a Masters Degree in Agricultural Economics with the same institution.
