Clubs were supposed to go on their monthly break after last weekend’s matches, but PSL Chief Executive Officer, Kennedy Ndebele, said the reintroduction of the Banc ABC Super8 and the time taken by national team engagements put paid to the rest.
The clubs would therefore, only be allowed to offload and or acquire new players during the period July 1-31, while still being active on the pitch. Ndebele said the PSL wanted the season to end as scheduled, before November 30, so that the Zimbabwe Football Association gets enough time to register the country’s representatives in continental competitions.
In addition to the Banc ABC tournament, there is also the Mbada Diamonds Cup and the proposed Zifa Cup, all of which have to be concluded within a short space of time.
“To accommodate all these fixtures, we need to have more midweek fixtures to ensure that the league moves smoothly and according to schedule, so that they do not inconvenience the sponsors that are now flocking to support our football,” said Ndebele. The Confederation of African Football has set November 30 for all countries to register their clubs for the Caf Champions League and the Caf Confederations Cup.
