Vote for change

EDITOR - Old as he is, President Robert Mugabe no longer has the energy to run the country. This he knows very well and, in the last few months, he has publicly acknowledged his old age.

Many people would have thought that he should pass on the baton to a younger colleague in his party to contest in the forthcoming Presidential election.

If he knew there was an electable colleague within his party, he would have stood down. But he knows that all the comrades in his party are not presidential material; they do not have what it takes to run Zimbabwe.

Fortunately for Zanu (PF), the new constitution is the best that could be achieved under the circumstances and it allows the ruling party to replace the president in the event that the post of president becomes vacant.

Mugabe and Zanu (PF)’s plan, therefore, if to try their luck with Mugabe as candidate and in the unlikely event that he wins, he can resign and hand the reigns over to anyone agreed on by his party.

To vote for Mugabe in the coming election is to vote for someone you don’t know, because Mugabe will not last a year in office. Why not vote for a devil that you know?

Mugabe’s time is up; 33 years of ruining the country’s economy is enough, we need a new Zimbabwe. – Moses Ndlovu, London
