Bhunu new T.Z president

Tennis Zimbabwe has appointed Regis Bhunu as the association's new president. He will take over from Ann Martin whose two year term ended last month. Bhunu has been Martin's assistant after serving the association for three years.

His vision is clear. Bhunu believes in junior development as the only way to raise the sport back to its glory days.

“We need to sit down with the provinces and give them an outline of what we expect them to do. First thing we will try to have junior coaches going into primary schools.

“We are fighting to take a big thrust to move into the Davis Cup. If we go to the World Group it means we can host other international events, it can help our tennis to be attractive and it can help us in terms of awareness and sponsors coming in to support us,’’ said Bhunu.

Martin Lock, TZ's former board member was elected as the vice-president. He was also unopposed with Vincent Nyatoti, Beverly De Souza, Kuda Muhwandagara and Rutendo Chabururuka making up the rest of the board.

Matabeleland South came in as a new affiliate to the national association as administrator, Cliff Nhokwara, hopes more provinces will be incorporated.
