Fresh from a month-long tour of the United States, Umkhathi will represent the province in the national finals set for Harare on August 31.
“We only had two weeks to prepare for this competition. We flew into the country a fortnight ago. We are now focusing on the finals which I am optimistic we are going to win,” said Matesu Dube, the Director and founder of the group.
Matesu said the judges were impressed by their Setapa dance.
“We did the Setapa dance and worked on our choreography. Before the finals we will perfect our act since we now have more time,” he said.
Kwabatsha and Ingwenyama took second and third place respectively at the competition. Umkhathi walked way $500 richer, with Kwabatsha and Ingwenyama pocketing $300 and $200 respectively.
Umkhathi won first prize in the competition in 2011 and finished second at the national finals in the same year.
