This is the second time he has had a trial with the Urban Warriors whom he impressed four months ago, but could not make his big move after Swallows refused to release him.
“I am currently with Ajax and hope to make it. I want to move to a more competitive league,” said Mazarura. “It’s early days to say either they will sign me or not as everyone has just returned from the off-season break, but I am confident that I will make it. I have what it takes to play at any level, given my experience and talent.”
Two months ago, Swallows refused to release Mazarura to attend trials with former South African reigning champions, Orlando Pirates after Pirates head coach, Roger De Sa had expressed an interest in assessing him.
Mazarura who had also developed a knack for scoring goals for his Swallows outfit was one of the club’s top goal scorers with more than10 goals last season, and was the third best goalkeeper in the league in terms of goals conceded.
Should Mazarura make it at Urban Warriors he will be the third Zimbabwean goalkeeper in the SA PSL after Amazulu’s Tapuwa Kapini and Washington Arubi who are on the books of Pretoria University. Late last year, the 28-year-goalkeeper was called for the Warriors for the failed Africa Cup of Nations campaign although he failed to make it into the final squad.
